The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH 2016), a global initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF), will open in Doha today and discuss to address some of the world’s most pressing healthcare challenges. H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation (QF) is expected to preside over the opening ceremony.
WISH brings together around 1400 high-level policymakers, academics and professionals and has evolved into a significant platform for the dissemination of healthcare innovation and best practices. It is aligned with QF’s mission to reinforce Qatar’s pioneering role as an emerging center for healthcare innovation and unlocking human potential.
The two- day summit will be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
2016 Summit features nine panel discussions, based on evidence-based research including on Accountable Care, Autism, Behavioural Insights, Cardiovascular Disease, Genomics in the Gulf Region and Islamic Ethics, Health Professional Education, Healthy Populations, Investing in Health, and Precision Medicine. Internationally-renowned experts will chair the discussions.
“This year we are addressing some interesting areas including accountable care, autism – very important because of the high prevalence, behavioral insights, where major challenges in the disease is the human behaviour and cardiovascular disease, one of the major killers. A update on the Qatar Genome project will be announced and there is a forum on precision medicine, we also cover areas of population health, investing in healthcare. A Forum will also discuss about Ethics as its much important with the new technology and innovations in healthcare,” said Professor The Lord Darzi of Denham, Executive Chair of WISH during a press conference held yesterday.
For the first time, WISH will also report on its ongoing impact locally and globally on issues previously highlighted at the Summit, such as Diabetes and Patient Safety.
“WISH is not a conference but a community of leaders dedicated in making a difference in healthcare. The summit creates the resources that we can use bother domestically and globally to make a change in healthcare,” said Egbert Schillings, CEO, WISH.
Dr Mariam Abdulmalik, Managing Director of Primary Health Care Corporation, highlighted the impact of WISH in primary healthcare in Qatar, especially the Smart Clinic for diabetes at Al Wakrah. Nuaimi, President, Pre-University Education, Qatar Foundation spoke about the contribution of QF in enhancing healthcare in Qatar and around the globe.
Dr Mark McClellan, Chair of WISH Forum on Accountable Care shared his perspectives on Accountable care within the global and local context.
