Bikes confiscated for traffic violations.
The General Directorate of Traffic Department has caught a group of bikers on Al Shamal Road for not using number plates, over-speeding and reckless behaviour which exposed them and other commuters to danger.
An official from the Traffic Department recently said that “the punishment for driving motorcycle without number plate, or hiding it or placing it on non-designated areas, is confiscation of the vehicle for three months and transferring the drivers to public prosecution.”
In case the driver repeats the violation, the fine could reach QR30,000 and prison for three months, he added.
Captain Mohamed Safr Al Kuwari from traffic investigation said that “the traffic patrols have caught the violators in less than 24 hours after their video was circulated in social media.
The video showed the bikers driving recklessly and over-speeding, ignoring safety rules.
He also added that “although the violators were not using number plates, the traffic department succeeded in catching them and got them transferred for further legal actions and their vehicles were confiscated in Industrial Area.
Al Kuwari stressed that motorbike drivers must obey traffic rules and should not drive recklessly as it exposes them and the road users to danger.
Some common careless behaviour includes going in groups and not wearing helmets which are against the safety measures.
Strict punishment
Violations like driving without licences is not allowed and the strict punishment will be taken against the violators, especially in case of repeated violation.
During a panel discussion titled “Motorcycles and Traffic Safety” organized recently by General Directorate of Traffic Department in collaboration with Qatar Center for Motorcycles “ Batabit”, speakers from traffic department said that “due to traffic awareness and Batabit’s efforts rackless bahviour by drivers has declined”.
