Doha: Qatar volleyball team will compete in the 17th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championships that will begin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today.
Twenty-eight teams, placed in eight pools of three each, are participating in the tournament with the opening ceremony to be held at 6.30pm at the Hamdan Sports Complex today.
Qatar are placed in Pool G along with India and Uzbekistan. Qatar play their first match against India tomorrow at 12pm at Hamadan Sports Complex.
Seven-time champion Japan, are placed in Pool E with Oman and Sri Lanka, are unlikely to face a major challenge from their rivals.
Defending champions Iran, who beat China 3-1 in the final of the last edition held in Tehran in 2011, are placed in Pool C along with Kuwait and Kazakhstan. Iran play their first match against Kazakhstan today.
Four-time champions South Korea who finished third in Tehran are placed in Pool F along with Iraq and Afghanistan.
