Doha: Qatar national football team coach Felix Sanchez has been given the additional charge of Olympic national team.

Qatar Football Association (QFA) in a statement said that “QFA’s executive committee has decided to appoint Felix Sanchez as the head coach of the Olympic national team. The Spaniard will replace his compatriot Albert Fernandez, and will also remain at the helm of the senior national team, a position he has held since July 2017,”

In Olympics football, teams are allowed to field only players under 23 years old, with three over-23-year-old players.

Sanchez, 43, has spent much of his coaching career in Qatar, working at the Aspire Academy before leading the nation to the Asian Under-19 title in 2014 and he has a long-standing relationship with many of the current squad.

Sanchez also led the Qatar national team to the historic Asian Cup title in the United Arab Emirates in January.
