Team Qatar yesterday made a clean sweep in the men’s volleyball competition at the GCC Games when Al Annabi spikers beat United Arab Emirates 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-16) to seal their 13th gold medal in Kuwait.

Qatar, the only unbeaten team in the volleyball competition, yesterday signed off at the top of the table with 15 points in the round robin contest after recording victories over all five of their opponents - without conceding a set -  during the prestigious Games. 

Bahrain finished second in the points table with 11 points after winning four matches while Oman came third with eight points after winning three matches.

Meanwhile, Qatar also sealed a clean sweep over United Arab Emirates in their second men’s Tennis Group A team event when Mousa Shannan and Rashed nawaf won their respective singles matches before Mousa and Issa Shannan blanked their doubles opponents.

Shannan defeated Fahad Janahi 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and seven minutes before Nawaf got the better of Abdulrahman Aljanahi 6-1, 6-1 in one hour and 21 minutes.

After that, Mousa and Issa Shannan completely swept away the Emirati pair of Omar Ahmadi and Abdulla Al Marzooqi 6-0, 6-0 in just 29 minutes to seal the 3-0 win.

Qatar will meet Kuwait in their fourth Group A tie.

Meanwhile, in men’s padel, Qatar’s Mohammed Al Khanji and Jabor Al Mutawa defeated UAE’s Abdulla Ahli and Mohammed Al Janahi 2-1 in their Group A team event as to move a step closer to a gold medal. Qatar have so far won all of their team events, and are leading the points tally with six points. Qatari padel team will meet their last opponents, Kuwait today in search of a medal.

At the end of day 12 of the regional Games, Qatar are in fourth spot with 13 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze which makes a total of 45 medals.

The medal tally is led by Kuwait who have clinched a total of 28 gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze medals.
