HMC offers health tips to manage anxiety during exams

Doha: As exams approach for students in the coming months, Hamad Medical Corporation has issued a few health tips for parents and students to effectively manage stress and anxiety during school exams. 

The tips mentioned are: 
1. Make sure you start studying and preparing long before exams to avoid exhaustion during exam period. 
2. Ensure you get enough sleep in the days leading upto exams to improve your attentiveness. 
3. Avoid excessive consumption of coffee, tea and energy drinks as consuming too much of these can increase stress and affect your ability to think clearly. 
4. Eat more healthy food leading upto exams and on exam days. 
5. Perform light exercises such as breathing and meditation and relaxation exercises to overcome your fears and relieve stress
6. Choose a suitable place for studying and always keep good lighting and ventilation in mind. 

Clinical Dietitian Supervisor at HMC, Dr Ghazi Darradkeh said that one should include food with all nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Food that provides fats such as fish, nuts and olive oil should be increased as it helps improve concentration and performance of the brains. Parents should ensure that kids have their breakfast before heading out for the day and it would help if the prepared food is presented in an attractive way so that kids enjoy their meal, he concluded.
