Qatar and Georgia to bolster cooperation in agricultural field

Qatar and Georgia enjoy strong trade and economic relations which have grown over the years as Qatar offers unique opportunity for Georgian products to enter into its market, said a Georgian official.

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of AgriteQ 2023, George Avaliani, Head of Public Relations and Marketing Department of Rural Development Agency said, “We are responsible for international exhibitions for Georgian agricultural companies. This is our second year in AgriteQ exhibition. We bring here 14 Georgian companies with variety of products from lamb meats to nuts, walnuts, mineral water, natural juices, honey producers and we believe that it is good opportunity to develop and increase our export.” 

“Qatar is one of the main directions for us because we believe that Gulf countries especially Qatar is very important market for us. We are happy to be here and think that Georgian products have very unique opportunity to enter in Qatari market.  We have started negotiations with several Qatari companies regarding export of Georgian products,” he added. 

Speaking about the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both the countries on the sidelines of the exhibition, Avaliani noted that Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia H E Otar Shamugia signed a MoU to enhance further cooperation.

He further said that there were several meetings with Ministry of Environment of Qatar and Georgia and it is a good way of having strong connections between these two countries. 

“We believe that it will help us to progress our relationship and all these memorandums that were signed are a good beginning of something big as it will be more flexible and easier for Georgian goods to enter into Qatari market. Also, we are very interested that Qatari investors come to Georgia and invest in Georgian agricultural field which will strengthen the economic ties between the two countries.” 

The MoU aims to build bridges of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of water environment, air quality, wildlife and biodiversity, inspection of industries and pollution control, and climate change. It also aims to enhance cooperation and capabilities in the field of environmental protection for the benefit and benefit of the two countries, support and implement programs and projects in the environmental field, support studies in the environmental field, and enhance cooperation in the field of combating climate change.

Under the agreement cooperation between the two countries takes place in the fields of programs, projects and studies of the water environment, monitoring and control of air quality, conservation of wildlife and biodiversity, training programs and exchange of experiences in the fields of industrial inspection, pollution control and climate change.
