Doha: Don’t pack your umbrellas and raincoats yet as more rain is expected during weekend.
We don’t want to disappoint those who were standing in line for hours today to get the car washed, but Met has predicted light to moderate rain from Thursday (March 2) to Sunday (March 5) in some areas of Qatar.
“Partly cloudy to cloudy skies at times are expected with a chance of scattered rain mostly light to moderate in intensity with a possibility of limited thundery cells over some areas,” Qatar Meteorology Department said.
“Weather charts indicate that the country will be affected by atmospheric instability due to a trough of low pressure over the region during the period from Thursday (March 2, 2017) until end of Sunday (March 5, 2017),” they added.
The prevailing winds during this period will be north-easterly to easterly light to moderate becoming fresh at times and temperatures are expected to be around their normal average.
Qatar Meteorology Department urged everyone to follow latest updates through official channels and check weather forecast before going to sea.
Qatar has been receiving intermittent rain over the past few weeks and the country has been having some very pleasant temperature too.
Qatar saw the coldest February this year since 1962, according to the weather bureau. The temperature average for the month was 2 to 3 degrees lower than the usual average for the month. The mercury also fell to its lowest in Qatar earlier this month with a temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius recorded at Abu Samrah, breaking previous record of 3.8 degrees Celsius observed in 1964.
