PHCC’s new health centre to cater 35,000 people

Doha: The Primary Health Care Corporation’s (PHCC) newly opened Qatar University Health Centre with the capacity to cater for 35,000 people will provide high standards of patient care in a warm atmosphere. 

The health centre will initially register 10,000 people from neighboring areas and gradually increase the number. It offers an array of services such as family medicine, dermatology, radiology, dentistry and ophthalmology.

“QU Health Centre will offer services complying with the PHCC’s vision to advance health and wellbeing through primary healthcare services which are comprehensive, integrated, patient-centered and affordable,” Dr AlAnoud Saleh AlFehaidi, Manager at QU Health Centre told The Peninsula. “We provide health services to Qatari families, residents of the local area and QU students,” she added.

The Health Centre provides family medicine, specialist clinics and walk-in services. Family medicine services include chronic disease management, child health, antenatal care, health education among others. Specialist clinics include ophthalmology clinics, dental services, dermatology and ENT. 

“We attend emergency cases, but stabilize the patients and transfer them to a hospital,” said Dr AlAnoud.

The QU Health Centre also offers women’s wellness clinics, maternity and well-baby clinics, smoking cessation clinic and dental clinics. 

“Our dental services include oral health promotion, general dental treatment, oral health prevention and screening services for children. We have eight clinics and specialized oral health clinics for endodontic, pediatric dentistry and oral surgery,” said Dr Mohammed Bassel, Dental Lead at the QU Health Centre. 

The centre has 23 doctors and 44 nurses working and advanced laboratories with skilled lab technicians and a pharmacy. “We conduct all lab tests required for primary care. We can do 200 clinical biochemistry tests and 1000 hematology tests per hour with the most advanced technology and equipment used at the laboratories,” said Shamil Mohamed, Lab Lead at the QU Health Centre.

QU Health Centre started to register people since December 16, 2018 and officially opened on January 15. Within a month 3700 people have registered with the centre living in the areas including Al Tarfa, Jeryan Nejaima, Jelaiah, Legtaifiya, the Pearl, Al Gassar 66, Alkharayej, Al Egla, Jabal Thuaileb and Umm Lekhba. Also people registered at health centres in West Bay , Madinat Khalifa and Al Gharafa are invited to register with  QU Health Centre. 

The new health centre in geographic proximity with Qatar University complies with the Global Sustainability Assessment System Certification (GSAS), which is the first performance-based system in the MENA region developed for rating green buildings and infrastructures. With the opening of the QU Health Centre, PHCC now operates 27 health centres across the country.
