DOHA: Al Emadi Enterprises, one of the leading real estate developers in the country, yesterday signed a one-year deal with Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (REC) to become the title sponsor of Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere race to be held next month.
The popular race - reserved for two-year-old colts and fillies - will be held at the Longchamp Racecourse in Paris during the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend (October 5 to 7).
The agreement was signed at the REC’s premises yesterday.
The deal was signed by Mohammed Al Emadi, Managing Director, Al Emadi Enterprises, and REC chairman Sheikh Mohammed bin Faleh Al Thani.
“We are thrilled to have Al Emadi Enterprises as the main sponsor of Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere race,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
“This is not the first time that Al Emadi are associating themselves with horse racing. They have supported our races many times in the past also,” Sheikh Mohammed added after putting pen to paper.
The Al Emadi Enterprises chief said: “Al Emadi Enterprises has a special interest in sport events hosted by Qatar in or outside of the country. The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend is a big event on the French sports calendar. It is an event that is watched by millions of people around the world. For us. it makes perfect sense to associate ourselves with an event that is supported by Qatar.”
Al Emadi added: “We have decided that we will sponsor two races in Qatar also. We will be sponsors of the Heir Apparent Sword Race and one of the key races during the Emir’s Day events planned for next March at REC grounds.”
He added: “In short, we will partner REC for one race in Paris and two main events in Doha next year. We will continue to back sports events managed by the State of Qatar. That’s why you see our name at various sports events held in Qatar.”
Sami Jassim Al Boenain, General Manager, REC, said: “This will be the 91st edition of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. This race weekend has a huge following the world over. The world’s top names in horses and riders assemble in Paris for the weekend.”
Al Boenain said the race carries the top prize of € 350,000.
The winning entry takes home € 199,990 while the second-best name gets richer by €80,010, Al Boainain said.
“We are happy to see Al Emadi Enterprises willing to be part of our events in Paris and Doha,” Al Boenain said.
