Plans to open Arab university branches

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is planning to open branches of well-established Arab universities in Qatar, so more students could pursue their higher education in the country.

Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi said that during past five years the number of higher education institutes in Qatar increased from 16 to 26 which included government and private universities and colleges (military and civil) offering variety of programs to the students. 

Talking to the media on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of the Community College of Qatar’s (CCQ) Al Khor Campus, H E the Minister said the Ministry is currently discussing the possibility of opening branches of prestigious Arab universities in Doha. 

“The Ministry is working to strengthen the role of the private sector in establishing universities and colleges to meet the needs of the community in bachelor and graduate degrees in various programs,” said H E the Minister.

H E the Minister of Education and Higher Education said that the Ministry is working to encourage the private sector to establish schools according to the needs of the State, adding that 11 plots of land were allocated for the private sector to build schools according to the US, British, Arab and Indian curricula. H E the Minister said that more plots of land were being allocated for the same.

“The Ministry receives many requests by private schools to increase fees,” said H E the Minister, adding that the owners of schools invested to make profits but the Ministry deals with the requests to safeguard the interests of both school owners and parents.
