Doha: Aiming to further strengthen bilateral ties, Qatar and India aspire to achieve a more comprehensive energy partnership, Ambassador of India to Qatar, H E Dr. Deepak Mittal has said.
The Ambassador was speaking at a reception organised by the Indian Embassy yesterday to celebrate 72nd Republic Day of India. The event was held at Sheraton Hotel with a limited number of people in attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Commerce and Industry, H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari; Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H E Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro; Dean of Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of Eritrea to Qatar, H E Ali Ibrahim Ahmed; and leaders and members of Indian expatriate community in Qatar.
Addressing the gathering, H E Dr. Deepak Mittal said that India endeavours to attain sustainable development and will achieve its target of 450 GW of renewable energy generation by 2030 and 175 GW before 2022. Speaking about the opportunities for India and Qatar to work together, the Ambassador said the both countries can enhance their ties in science, technology and health sectors. “Indian Community in Qatar will remain a connecting bridge between the two countries and help us strengthen our relations further,” said the Ambassador.
He said India is celebrating its 72nd Republic Day, remembering the teachings of Bapu, Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, whose principles and teachings are as relevant today as they were a century ago. “His principles of non-violence, equality and justice find their way into India’s policies – both domestic and foreign,” said the Ambassador.
The Ambassador thanked Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the government of Qatar for including everyone irrespective of their nationality in their national COVID-19 vaccine drive.
“Indian community in Qatar has truly made Qatar their second home. They have been contributing to Qatar’s growth and development in all walks of life. Today, we see Indians in all sectors in Qatar contributing in various capacities,” said the Ambassador. He said the entire Indian community celebrates and participates in Qatar’s successes, including the return of Asian Games to Qatar in 2030.
“We are proud of the Indian companies and workers who have been participating in the successful and timely delivery of the infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup,” said the Ambassador.
