Doha: Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie visited yesterday the rainfall emergency control room to take stock of the rainwater on highways and other key public areas caused by heavy rain.
H E the Minister of Municipality and Environment and President of Ashghal visited Rain Control Room to follow up rain team performance and monitor the situation on main roads along with tunnels and underpasses, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) tweeted yesterday.
The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has forecast that thundery rain is expected today at places at first and strong wind during the day. According to the Department, the temperature will fall significantly in the coming days due to the rainfall and wind.
The Rainfall Emergency Committee at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment swung into action to remove water-logging from low lying areas caused by heavy downpour yesterday.

“Rainfall emergency teams were deployed with the beginning of raining to ensure the traffic flow,” said Safar Mubarak Al Shafi, Head of the Rainfall Emergency Committee who is also Head of General Cleanliness Department in a statement.
He said that the operation will continue until the removal of water-logging across the country. “The Committee made all necessary preparations earlier by deploying the teams at low-lying areas so they could immediately start the operation,” said Al Shafi.
He said that the committee prepared a complete plan on how to respond to the calls through control rooms from all over the country in a bid to send the teams to all areas to clear rainwater.
“All calls seeking removal of water-logging are being responded on time. The operation will continue round-the-clock until the removal of rainwater,” said Al Shafi.
He said that the operation primly focused on highways and tunnels to ensure traffic flow and teams are also in action to remove the rainwater from residential areas.
“Requests of citizens and expatriates about removing the water-logging from their localities are being addressed whether the calls were made through emergency number issued by each municipality, hot-line 184 and 998 Al Awn application and social networking sites of the Ministry,” said Al Shafi. P4
QMD has forecast for an expected thundery rain today (Monday). Cloudy at first with chance of rain, may be thundery at places at first becoming partly cloudy and mild daytime, relatively cold by night, the Department tweeted yesterday.
Due to unsettled weather conditions expected to affect the country during the period from November 24 to 27, QMD has urged people to avoid all marine activities especially on Monday (today) where conditions become favorable for thunderstorms of variable intensity accompanied with strong winds.
