DOHA: Qatar Fuel (Woqod), the downstream joint stock oil storage, distribution and marketing company yesterday announced its expansion plans. The Company is currently involved in the implementation of more than 37 projects across the country, including petrol stations, vehicle inspection centers (Fahes) and product supply Pipe-lines, said Mohamed Turki Al Sobai, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Woqod.
Al Sobai announced that the three petrol stations, located at Roda Al Hamam, Abu Samra and Mesaieed West, are completely ready for opening. The company is waiting for permission from the Civil Defence Department.
Other projects are currently either under construction such as Mesaieed North and the Pearl, or in tendering stages to be constructed in different areas including Al Wakra, Al Ruhaia, Um Karn, Al Wajba, Al Dakheera ,The Government, The Marine at Doha Port, Al Jamelia, Al Kotaifa, Um Ghareebah, Al Wakeer, Hamad International Airport East and West. These projects are expected to be completed during 2013.
While the Saudi Arabia project is in tendering stage, and it will be launched in the second quarter of 2013. Expansion projects for existing petrol stations are currently taking place at Al Hilal, Industrial Area, North University, Gharafa, West Bay, Thayen, Muaither, Al Seylia, Bu Fasila, Dukhan, and Mesaimeer East. Some of these expansions are near completion and the others will be finished during the first half of 2013.
Two technical inspection centers (for vehicles) located at Mesaimeer petrol station and Wadi Al Banat (North University) petrol stations are completed and fully equipped .The official inauguration will take place during the second half of 2013.
This project is currently executed by Qatar Petroleum, on behalf of Woqod. The first phase, which includes 18 inch pipe line to carry all types of petroleum products from Mesaieed Refinery to Doha Depot, has been completed. While the second phase, which intends to supply Hamad International Airport with Jet Fuel (Jet-A1), will be commissioned before the opening of Hamad International Airport.
Woqod’s marketing activities and retail services include LPG, Bitumen, car wash, lubricants, repair workshops, post office and other. During the first quarter of 2013, total revenues of marketing services increased by 48 percent as compared to the corresponding period of 2012. As far as LPG and lubricants are concerned, they grew by 6.6 percent and 42 percent respectively. Woqod’s branded lubricants sales recorded 90 percent increase for the same period. Bitumen sales which increased by 89 percent is expected to grow rapidly as a result of high demand in the coming months.
