Doha: The latest technologies and equipment in the medical sector are on showcase at the Qatar International Medical Devices and Healthcare Exhibition and Conference (QMED 2019), which opened at the Qatar National Convention Centre, yesterday.
Minister of Public Health, H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, officially inaugurated the second edition of QMED, in the presence of several officials and diplomats. They included Eva Bolano, Ambassador of Sweden; Sheikh Dr Mohammed Al Thani, Director of Public Health Ministry of Public Health, and Dr Mariam Abdulmalik, Managing Director, Primary Health Care Corporation.
H E the Minister and other dignitaries also toured the exhibition and they were briefed about the equipment on showcase. QMED, the premium Medical and Healthcare Exhibition in Qatar, is aimed at medical and healthcare professionals featuring top exhibitors and speakers from around the world. It has brought more than 40 exhibitors from 12 countries including Qatar, Turkey, the US, Switzerland, Thailand and the UK. The exhibition is divided in to ten categories including QPhama, QLab, QHealth and QMedical tourism.
The three-day event is jointly organised by the local Doha-based Sogha Exhibitions and Conferences along with London- based ExCo Media with the support of the Ministry of Public Health.
“This is the second edition of QMED and we are seeing more participants than the previous year. The exhibitors come from all over the world. This is a good platform for trading medical equipment. It has given companies the opportunity to showcase what they have to offer and the healthcare providers to see what is available in the market,” Ali Abdullah Al Khater, Chair of the Healthcare Communications Committee, told The Peninsula.
Khalifa Al Mohannadi of Sogha Exhibitions and Conferences, said, “QMED has succeeded in attracting a number of VIP’s and leading names in the international and local healthcare sector, thus quickly establishing itself as an ideal platform for knowledge-transfer and discussions around the healthcare industry, latest technical innovations, and sharing best practices in the medical field.”
QMED 2019 will host three conferences and workshops organised by Alfardan Medical and Northwestern Medicine (AMNM), Naufar Hospital, and Reviva for Medical Services. Local and international speakers will lead the discussions, with the participation of more than 500 doctors covering all medical specialties.
“This is our first time to participate in QMED. We have brought our partners too from countries including Turkey, Germany, Czech Republic. It is a good opportunity to showcase the latest equipment we have and look forward to meet potential buyers,” said Wesam El Batash, CEO of Reviva Medical Services, a Qatar based company.
Today, Reviva for Medical Services will also cover a series of topics related to various new therapy technologies, and in parallel, Naufar Hospital will talk all about addiction as a disease and proven methods of treatment. QMED 2019 is also supported by Qatar National Tourism Council, Qatar Diabetes Association and Qatar Chamber of Commerce.
