Doha: Qatar has stepped up efforts to adopt latest technologies to solve the environmental problems caused by the economic development of the country.
“The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, giving important to the issues of development and environment, brings about long term solutions for a number of environmental problems caused by economic development of the country,” said Assistant Undersecretary of General Services Affairs at the Ministry, Sheikh Eng. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani.
“The Ministry is in search of the best technologies for minimising the impacts caused by economic projects, such as waste recycling which is adopted by the Ministry as a key issue,” he said while speaking at a workshop on waste management yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry.
The workshop ‘Waste Management and Waste to Energy’ was organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Japan.
The event was attended by Vice-Minister for Global Environment Affairs, Ministry of the Environment, Japan, Yasuo Takahashi; Ambassador of Japan to Qatar, Seiichi Otsuka; Director of General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Safar Mubarak Al Shafi; Assistant Director of the Waste Management Department at the Ministry Hassan Nasr Al Nasr and a number of other officials.
Sheikh Eng Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani said that Qatar is committed to international standards to protect the environment.
Director of General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Safar Mubarak Al Shafi, said that Qatar is working to achieve the target of zero waste.
“Minister of Municipality and Environment is working to have an advanced system of waste management, one of the best in Middle East, therefore the cooperation is being done with Japan which is well-known name in this field,” said Al Shafi.
