Over 13,000 students benefited from ‘Taa’hud’ platform for teaching Holy Quran virtually last year. The programme was supported by Endowment Fund for Holy Quran Services run by the Endowments Department of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

“Over 4,000 students participated in two competitions — learning Holy Quran and prophetic traditions in 2021,” said Director General of Endowments Department at the Ministry, Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani.   Dr. Sheikh Khalid was addressing a press conference yesterday to highlight the achievements of the Endowment Department in 2021. To a question about the project of expanding Holy Quran learning centres, he said a major investment project of endowment ‘Al Utrujjah’ to serve Holy Quran Learning Centers in Qatar has been completed and rented out for generating revenues.

“The revenue from the project will be spent on improving the quality of learning Holy Quran by increasing the number of teachers and providing better and more facilities,” said Dr. Sheikh Khalid.

Last year, he said, the Department, through its six separate endowment funds, financed many projects such as building mosques, providing educational opportunities and scholarships, healthcare services and many more.
“As many as 4,201 needy families received food baskets under ‘Salat Al Ata’ project during the period of study,” said Dr. Sheikh Khalid. He said that the education and culture development endowment fund provided 14 scholarships to students to pursue their higher studies in Oxford University and 120 scholarships for universities in Qatar.

“The fund also sponsored 17 students from people with disabilities. As many as 583 students from 17 nationalities were provided educational opportunities in Assalam School and 199 students from 36 nationalities in Religious Institute.”

He said that the family and childhood endowment fund sponsored 129 Qatari families and 64 expatriate families in Qatar in addition to pre-marriage programmes which benefited 234 individuals. “The Endowment Fund for Healthcare provided a permanent headquarters for Qatar Autism Society and 12,000 dialysis treatments to poor patients with kidney disorders and treatments to 63 heart patients in Qatar.”

He said the endowment fund for mosques services helped build 28 mosques and houses of Imams last year and 65 such facilities are under construction. The fund also provided 20 makeshift mosques in new areas, he added.

During last year, he said, four new investment endowment projects were completed, including a residential building,

Sheikh Ali Housing Complex, which consists of 94 villas, and two complexes of 14 and 7 villas from the Al Misnad Waqf. “Six projects are under construction, and 10 projects under process for issuance of licenses,” said Dr. Sheikh Khalid. He thanked donors of endowments for their generous support to serve the community.
