Qatar Museums participates in ICOM General Conference in Prague

Doha/ Prague: Qatar Museums is participating in the 26th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), which is being held in Prague, the Czech Republish, under the them “The Power of Museums”. It will  continue until August 28 with the participation of more than 3,000 museum experts.

Acting Deputy CEO of Museums, Collections and Heritage Protection and Director of the National Museum of Qatar Sheikha Amna bint Abdulaziz Al Thani will present today a working paper during the conference entitled “Museums, technology and corporate social responsibility... a case study from the National Museum of Qatar”.

ICOM Prague 2022 will focus on four main issues including economic and environmental sustainability; digitisation and new technologies; civil society and community building; leadership and management.  Additionally, the General Conference will provide the background of the debate and vote on a new museum definition.

During the conference, experts will discuss the strength and location of museums and their ability to build a free, democratic and educated society; how museums meet the challenges and needs of the 21st century; and the ability to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the societal and economic levels.

The ICOM General Conference is a renowned worldwide hub for exchanging on topical issues museums tackle today, as well as the most innovative solutions. 

Since 1948, every three years, the organisation gathers the international museum community around a theme of crucial interest to foster cultural exchange, promote international cooperation, and to inspire local actions in order to allow museums to continue their mission in service of society. 

Participants in the conference from all international backgrounds, renowned speakers and world-class experts come together to attend debates, round tables, panels, networking events and cultural activities.

The ICOM was established in 1946 under the umbrella of the United Nations, as a global organisation specialised in the field of museums, their development and coordination among them. Its membership includes more than 50,000 specialists representing 122 countries, and nearly 20,000 museums around the world.
