Badar A Joof, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of Gambia, has said that Gambia intends to develop strong relations with Qatar in education sector.
“I am here to strengthen ties between the two countries in the areas of research, general education especially the higher education, science, engineering and technology,” Badar A Joof told The Peninsula at 2019 education conference yesterday.
He said that Qatar is enjoying excellent experience and expertise in education sector. “We will learn a lot of from Qatar. Qatar’s education system is on the right track and what I have seen here today Qatar is progressing in term of appropriate and relevant education system,” said the Minister.
Speaking on the achievements of Qatar in the researches of agriculture, energy, sustainability and water conservation which he observed during his visit, the Minister said that these are relevant for desert countries like Qatar.
“I met with H E the Minister of Education and Higher Education and a number of experts in education and research sectors. This is first step in this regards. We will be making more visits and will be interacting not only policy levels but also on programs levels,” said the Minister.
He said that as per the plan, the students, experts and technicians from Gambia will visit Qatar and interact with local experts. “We are inviting the authorities concerned in Qatar to visit Gambia to see what we also have to share the experiences and expertise,” said the Minister adding that the interactions will be mutually beneficial for both countries.
Speaking about the areas of cooperation between Qatar and Gambia, the Minister said: “We are looking for cooperation in science, engineering and research specially on higher education level.”
He said that there are a number of universities in Gambia. “We want to link them with Education City and Qatar University so we can cooperate in the areas of research, engineering and curriculum development,” said the Minister.
