Doha: Organised by the Qatar Athletics Federation, the 1st edition of the Doha Schools Diamond League kicked off at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium on Sunday.
The Diamond League is seeing the participation of 10 schools: Al Khor International School, the Jordanian School, the Egyptian Language School, the Syrian School, the Eadad International Academy, Newton International School, Lycee Bonaparte, Sherborne Qatar, King’s College Doha, and Doha College.
The Qatar Athletics Federation said that the Doha Schools Diamond League is part of the Federation’s strategic steps to support and nurture emerging talents in community, international, and private schools in Doha, to promote athletics and widen its popularity.
Running for two days, the tournament is featuring track and field competitions.
Top performers in the Doha Schools Diamond League will have the opportunity to participate in local races to be held alongside the Diamond League - Doha to commence on May 16, with the participation of a lineup of world champions, Olympic and World Medalists, and world record holders in various races and events from around the globe.
The League was inaugurated in the attendance of UK Olympic champion in long and middle-distance running, Mo Farah.
