Doha: Bakheet Salem Al Abhaq, Head of Operations and Support at the General Authority of Customs (GAC), has said that the Authority provides many facilities to the most law-abiding companies and around 162 such companies have been placed in the green list to benefit from these facilities.
“The role of customs is not only to inspect and control but also to facilitate commercial movement at entry, exit points of the country and create investment friendly environment. We protect society from counterfeit materials and offer commercial companies many facilities,” said Al Abhaq.
He also said, while speaking to Qatar TV recently, that the companies which are more committed to the GAC laws are benefiting from a lot of facilities including rapid release of goods and others. “There are as many as 162 companies which have made their place in GAC’s green list.”
Regarding the new technologies used by the General Authority of Customs to detect and seize banned materials, he said that one of the goals of the Authority in its strategy is continuous development whether by introducing all technological developments or developing the human cadres.”
“The Authority focused in the recent period on the human cadre by contracting with Australian colleges and universities where it graduated 71 of its employees in Diploma of Associate Sciences and currently 61 employees are studying in Diploma of Customs Science,” he said adding, “In the spring of this year, 40 employees with a Bachelor’s degree in Border Management will be graduated.”
Regarding the International Customs Day, which falls on January 26, (tomorrow) and which is celebrated every year, Al Abhaq said that it is an occasion to honour the distinguished customs officials who have served over 30 years and have more seizures on their record.
“It is also an occasion and a celebration of the achievements and major projects of the Authority, in addition to honouring local and regional partners and their role in the development the Authority,” he added.
Last year, the General Authority of Customs marked the International Customs Day and launched Al Nadeeb 2 project. The International Customs Day was marked last year under the slogan ‘Smart Borders for Seamless Trade, Travel and Transport’..
