Al Marri rides to glory on Anyway II

Rashid Towaim Al Marri yesterday made sure Anyway II complete a flawless routine as he captured top honours in the FEI Art. 238.2.1, 145cm category, the feature event on the second day of the QNB Qatar International Show Jumping Championship 2018 .

At the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s (QEF) outdoor arena, the 24-year-old Qatari rider clocked a time of 81.07 seconds in the FEI World Cup qualifying event on his gelding as he got richer by €2,200.

Clinton, with Rio Olympian Hamad Ali Al Attiayah in the saddle, missed the top spot of the podium by a fraction of a second.

The QEF-owned gelding clocked a time of 81.95 to finish second with another error-less run as Al Attiyah secured a prize cheque for €1,600. Carport, manoeuvred by Faleh Suwead Al Ajami, sealed the remaining podium spot after completing the same task in 83.30. He won €1,200.

S I E C Lonnie, ridden by Hamad Nasser Al Qadi, was the fastest among the top five, but four errors cost the popular rider his place on the podium. S I E C Lonie spent just 79.88 seconds to complete the round as the 22-year-old rider was placed fourth and won €800 in prize money.

Fiji, guided by Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi, finished fifth after clocking 85.49 but the young gelding made four errors on its way to complete the round.

Earlier, in the 115cm class with jump off, Hamad Nasser Al Qadi stamped his victory with Hugo Z by clocking 62.02 and 28.38 to secure the top prize of €1,250.

Arselina, with Mohammed Al Baker in the saddle, clocked 67.36 and 32.61 in the two phases to secure the second place which came with a prize cheque for €1,000. Mausi, ridden by Mirdef Ali Al Qashouti, sealed the third spot after finishing the first and second phases with 62.85 and 32.69 respectively. He won €750 in prize money.

Jaber Rashid Al Amri emerged on top in the fifth competition of the championship, when he guided Canavaro De Muze (ET) to complete the round against the clock with no errors in both phases.

The QEF-owned grey stallion completed the two phases, clocking 78.19 and 42.30 to earn Al Amri €1,500 in prize money.

Saeed Nasser Al Qadi, on Daydreamer EC, finished second, clocking 81.50 and 42.35 to win €1,200.

Mohammed Saeed Haidan completed the top three in the €6,000 event after completing two error-free phases on Apple Bee (79.31, 44.68) to win €900.
