WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama appointed Brett McGurk as the new US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh.
McGurk replaced the retired Marine Gen. John Allen, who is stepping down after 13 months of service as the special envoy for the global coalition to fight Daesh.
McGurk was the deputy of Allen. Previously, he had served as Special Advisor to the National Security Council under Obama.
Allen will leave office on November 12.
