Doha: Seven people were arrested while attempting to smuggle gold outside Qatar.

The North Security Department officials arrested seven Asians, who were trying to smuggle gold out of the country illegally by turning it into powder after mixing it with other additives, Ministry of Interior said on social media.

Tools used to commit the crime, in addition to cash and gold bullion worth up to QR 1 million, were found when the residence and vehicles of the perpetrators were inspected by the officers.

After completing the necessary procedures, the accused and seized material have been referred to competent authorities for further procedures.

Ministry of Interior reminded the public of the importance of cooperation with competent authorities and urged them to report any untoward incident immediately to the authorities.

“This would help reduce occurrence of such crimes,” the ministry said.
