Minister of Transport H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti inaugurating a website for weather conditions at the headquarters of the Ministry, yesterday.
Minister of Transport H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti yesterday launched a brand-new website (fifaweather2022) that will be providing the weather conditions and climate information during November and December as a service for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fans.
The new services will be reflected on the Q Weather App under the name the ‘FIFA 2022 Weather Conditions’. It will provide readings of all elements of the weather at the sites of the stadiums directly and round the clock.
Developed by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the launching of the new website and application services coincides with the World Meteorological Day, which falls on March 23 every year.
Addressing the opening ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry, the Minister of Transport said: “This new launch aims at providing the best services for the fans of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, thus reflecting the dynamic development in meteorology in Qatar.”
He said that it is also an addition to a wide range of accomplishments by the civil aviation sector, aiming at providing all the requirements for hosting such a global event, including the Mukaynis Meteorology Center, which significantly contributes to improving weather predictions by monitoring several elements of the weathers that were not available before.
The Minister of Transport H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti noted that Qatar is recognised by the World Meteorological Organization for providing weather services via the Gulf Marine Center (GMC)—the only provider of marine predictions and which provides its services to all the Gulf region, Arabian Sea and Gulf of Eden.
Meteorology Department Director at the CAA, Abdulla Al Mannai said that the services at the new website, which have been added to the Q Weather, will display the weather conditions monitored at the sites of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadiums via the monitoring stations installed at each stadium to facilitate weather predictions.
In addition to that, he said, the weather data provided by the Meteorology Department will be used to show the general weather predictions during the World Cup in November and December by indicating daily normals and diurnal temperature distribution on charts that are easy to read and understand.
Speaking to the media persons on the sideline of the event, Minister of Transport H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti said that the transport projects related to hosting FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 have been completed.
“We have completed the projects. Now we enter in the stage of inauguration which is slated in April and May. Almost all phases have been completed,” said the Minister.
Next month, he said: ”We will inaugurate the public transport terminals for electric buses which will be quantum leap of Qatar in this sector. We will launch a large number of electric buses which will ferry fans during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.”
He said that about 2,000 charging stations are being installed making Qatar one of the most advanced countries in the world in this field and first country in the world with this huge size of public transit services.
The Minister said that during June and July this year all stations will be ready and operational. “We had announced earlier to transfer about 20 to 25 percent of public transit into to electric but I would like to assure that the percentage of electric vehicles will be much more than the announced figure,” said the Minister.
He said that the move will help greatly in achieving the targets set by Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 which eyes to transfer public transit 100 percent eco-friendly.
“The project will continue to achieve QNV 2030 and vision of the Ministry to transfer all public transit into eco-friendly,” said the Minister.
