Saleh Al Kaabi
Qatar’s Saleh Al Kaabi is brimming with confidence ahead of the 25th Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, which gets underway at the Doha Golf Club (DGC) today.
After showing an impressive performance at the recently-concluded GCC Golf Championship in Abu Dhabi, Al Kaabi is representing Qatar at the $2m DP World Tour event along with Abdulrahman Al Shahrani.
The 28-year-old has been in good form in recent months including a third finish at the 36th Qatar Open Golf Amateur Championship in January. Al Kaabi also clinched silver medal at the Arab Golf Championship in Cairo last December.
But his best show came in Abu Dhabi last week, where he helped Qatar team to victory besides winning an individual title. Al Kaabi is now eyeing a good show at Qatar Masters, which will see a strong field in action.
“My preparations for the Qatar Masters have been great because we played a lot of tournaments in recent months,” Al Kaabi told reporters on the eve of Qatar Masters.
“I am going into the tournament with confidence. My first target will be to make the cut and I am hopeful of doing that. This will be my last event of the season and I am looking forward to finish this good season on a high note,” he added.
Al Kaabi also expressed his delight as Qatar Masters returns to the DGC after a two-year gap.
“It is really good to return to your home golf course. Doha Golf Club has been my home course for a long time and I think I will get an advantage of that,” he added.
Speaking on the Abu Dhabi event, Al Kaabi said the level of competition was high and it was a good experience for all the Qatari golfers.
“The teams were tough, particularly; we faced tough challenge against Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Saudi Arabia’s Faisal Salhab, who finished second is already here playing at Qatar Masters. He won the Arab Championship also but this time I defeated him in Abu Dhabi to win individual title and he ended as runner-up,” the Qatari golfer said
