Doha: Qatar Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that there was a breakthrough in the Gulf crisis that happened two weeks ago.
The Minister added, during a press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov today, Wednesday, in Moscow, that there are no obstacles to resolving the Gulf crisis at the political level and that it does not pay attention to small matters.
The minister emphasized that the unity of Gulf Cooperation Council and the peoples of the GCC countries are the biggest losers from this crisis, stressing that all aspects of the crisis must be resolved through direct dialogue.
“We will all emerge victorious from the crisis if we rebuild confidence in the Gulf Cooperation Council as a regional institution,” he added.
He added that Qatar views the issue of Gulf security as a priority and believes that the escalation is not in the interest of any party, noting that Qatar welcomes dialogue between the Gulf states and Iran and any initiatives that make the region stable.
The Deputy PM said that the talks to resolve Gulf Crisis was with Saudi Arabia which represented rest of the countries.
The Gulf crisis should be resolved by dialogue, respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, the Foreign Minister added.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that the two sides discussed the situation in the Gulf, stressing the importance of forming a collective security concept in the Gulf.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and non-Gulf state Egypt severed diplomatic, trade and travel ties with Qatar in mid-2017 and imposed a blockade.
