Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) recorded 13 degrees Celsius the lowest temperatures in Turainah and Abu Samra yesterday morning which is expected to dip further in coming days as the Department forecast for moderate to heavy rainfall during next week.
The pleasant weather brought opportunity to residents to take their families for picnicking to public parks and beaches during weekend, The Peninsula learned. Single workers are also planning to play friendly matches during off days and free times at evening seeking opportunity of falling mercury.
“Lowest temperature recorded this morning (Thursday) was 13°C in Turainah and Abu Samra and 20°C in Doha, the weather is generally mild daytime with scattered clouds and the wind is northwesterly not exceeding 15 kt inshore,” QMD tweeted yesterday. QMD in a statement issued yesterday warned of chance of thunderstorms of variable intensity on Sunday and Monday. “The country expected to be affected by a state of atmospheric instability due to extension of low pressure during the period between Saturday (October 24, 2018) until Tuesday (October 27),” said the Department.
According to QMD forecast, skies expected to become gradually partly cloudy to cloudy with chance of scattered thundery rain moderate to heavy especially on Sunday and Monday associated with strong wind at times and low visibility.
“The prevailing wind will be mainly northeasterly to southeasterly between 10-20 kt reaching 40 kt during thunderstorms and the wave height is expected to range between 3-5 ft rising to 15 ft at times during thunderstorms,” according to QMD forecast. “Therefore, all are urged to be cautious, avoid marine activities as well as to follow latest updates through daily weather forecast bulletins and official social media accounts.”
“I took my family to Al Wakra beach on last Friday where my children were able to play for long hours due to good weather,” said Abdullah Shameem Ahmad, an Indian expatriate said. “Al Wakra beach has long walkway which is very useful for jogging.”
“Two teams of my company played a friendly cricket match on last Friday,” said Rais Ahmad, a construction worker from Nepal. He said the match was played in an empty plot of land near Woqod petrol station in Ain Khalid which is close to his accommodation in the Industrial Area.
