In-form Al Rumaihi bags top prize on opening day

Popular Qatari rider Mubarak Yousef Al Rumaihi continued his amazing form with double podium finishes including top spot in the feature event as three-day QNB Qatar International Show Jumping Championship kicked off, yesterday.

At the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s (QEF) Outdoor Arena, Al Rumaihi wowed spectators with two flawless rides to seal first and third spots in the feature event on inaugural day.

Al Rumaihi, who won five podium spots at the recently-concluded Al Rayyan Championship, manoeuvred his 12-year-old stallion Bolandro to secure the top price in the Two Phases (Max. 140cm) event and later guided Vivaldi K to seal the third place in the same event.

Bolandro completed the first phase in 49.86 seconds, and the stallion went on to complete the second round in 37.85 seconds to win the event, as Al Rumaihi got richer by €1,960.

Vivaldi K earned the talented Qatari rider second podium finish when the 16-year-old gelding clocked times of 51.39 and 39.28 seconds to finish third which earned another €1,225 for Al Rumaihi.

Colibri 19, with Nasser Al Ghazali in the saddle, recorded times of 48.48 and 38.22 respectively to secure second place. He won €1,575 in prize money.

Casanova, ridden by Mohammed Saeed Haidan, and Carport with Faleh Suwead Al Ajami in the saddle, rounded up the top five of the €7,000 competition.

Earlier, in the 120/130cm event, Apple Bee, with Haidan in the saddle, clocked a time of 63.93 to clinch top spot.

The winner received a cash cheque worth €1,250.

Canavaro De Muze (ET), ridden by Jaber Rashid Al Amri won the second place after completing the same task in 67.17 seconds.

Saeed Nasser Al Qadi grabbed third position after guiding Daydreamer EC to finish the round in 69.18 seconds.

Meanwhile, the opening event of the day saw Hussain Said Haidan winning both first and second places.

Haidan’s 12-year-old mare Belucci Van ‘T Vleminkhof completed a round against the clock without any errors in 50.27 seconds to earn him the winner’s prize €1,000 and later, his 11-year-old gelding Colijn completed the same task in 52.72 to seal the second prize.

Hugo Z, with Hamad Nasser Al Qadi in control, finished the job in 53.32 seconds, as Abdulla Rashid Al Amri (Cinderella B) and Mohammad Hazim Abara (Ambre De Beaufour) came fourth and fifth respectively.

The three-day championship which is co-hosted by Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) and Al Shaqab, carries an overall prize bag of €51,000 and a total of nine competitions.

Top Qatari entries ware joined by riders from Canada, France, Jordan and Morocco.
