The construction of pedestrian bridges will start by June next year and priority will be given on places which witness more accidents like Salwa Road and Grand Hamad Street, said senior official at the Ministry of Interior.
“Places which are called “black spots” across the city must be the first, like Salwa Road and Grand Hamad Street. Another issue that we take into account is the volume of people using the area and if it witnesses more accidents or not”, he added.
The State Cabinet recently approved a draft decision by the Minister of Municipality and Environment establishing a committee that will oversee construction of pedestrian bridges to ensure they meet the required conditions and standards.
The official also said that the Sports Roundabout is under study and will be converted into underpass next year.
With regard to TV roundabout, he said work is going on to convert it into signalised intersection and into underpass in the future.
