Community College of Qatar (CCQ) yesterday held its 9th Graduation Ceremony virtually for the 2020 class of associate’s and bachelor’s degree holders. The college graduated 725 students across several academic fields. The college, which began operating in 2010, offers several associate and bachelor degree programmes, including a two-year Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree for students wishing to transfer to four-year universities. It also offers 2+2 associate and bachelor’s degree programmes and two-year Associate of Applied Arts and Applied Science degree programmes. Speaking during the virtual ceremony, CCQ President Mohammed Al Naemi thanked Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani for his patronage.
Al Naemi also highlighted the college’s achievement despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Al Naemi, alongside Vice-President Dr. Khalid Al Abdulqader, presented award plaques to outstanding graduates. “It is my pleasure to extend my congratulations to you on your graduation from the Community College of Qatar, whether with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. I would like to thank H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for his generous patronage of this ceremony.
“We spared no effort in making this virtual ceremony a success as a witness for your persistence and for the challenges this extraordinary batch has overcome along the way. Despite the challenges, we succeeded in supplying our nation with 725 promising specialised national cadres who are capable of competing in the market and effectively contributing to the advancement of our homeland,” Al Naemi said.
“We faced many challenges, but we managed to get over them and achieve further success. We were also able to enhance the flexibility of the educational process to keep up with today’s evolving requirements and challenges. Those challenges helped us think outside the box to efficiently harness technology’s power to provide more educational opportunities to serve a larger group of CCQ members. It enabled us to maximise our resources in a way that enhances the leadership of the college as a national higher education institution capable of coping with national developments,” he added. Speaking on behalf of the Class of 2020, a graduate of the Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration, Aysha Al Yarboei, said: “We had to gather our strength to face a different reality and to overcome the new challenges that came along.
Today’s ceremony is not like any other. We neither gathered in a celebration hall nor invited our families and friends. We neither received our graduation certificates personally nor got the chance of having His Excellency the Prime Minister and the College’s higher administration to honour us! Nevertheless, our main comfort is knowing that it is a celebration of success, persistence, and determination to overcome obstacles.” This year, CCQ launched the Bachelor of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme, which provides students holding CCQ’s associate’s degree in the same discipline with the opportunity to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
The college’s English Language Center also succeeded in obtaining a 5-year accreditation of the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA). CCQ also inked strategic partnerships with national institutions to enhance the academic and training collaborations and contribute to human and social development.
