Children’s Library at Qatar National Library has reached over 20,000 children through its social media platforms, since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, said a senior official of the Library.
Maram Abdul Aziz Al Mahmoud, Head of Children’s Library at Qatar National Library, said that the library displays children’s stories through social media platforms.
“Since the coronavirus pandemic, we have managed, through our electronic platform and other collaborating platforms, to reach about 20,000 children, and this is a good and important thing,” she said.
Speaking to Qatar TV, Maram said that this represents a great success for the library and benefit from the current conditions where more people are staying home specially children. “We hope this success will continue and not stop and continue even after the schools are opened,” she said.
She further said that “in the Children’s Library, we have more than 150,000 books, in addition to electronic resources, which are also important because they encourage reading.There are audio and video games.
The electronic sources provided by the Qatar National Library through its official website are very popular, and are witnessing more demand since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
These electronic resources cover a wide range of fields, topics and for different ages, including e-books, audiobooks, academic research, newspaper and magazine articles.
Qatar National Library is constantly working to develop its innovative programs and services, in order to create and guarantee an information and disciplinary environment.
The library closed to public until further notice since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.“However, our extensive Online Resources remain available 24/7 for members everywhere. They offer free access to ebooks, journals, magazines and newspapers, opportunities to stream video and music, and books and online activities for children and young adults. The Qatar Digital Library and our Digital Repository are also accessible to all users,” the library posted on its website. While the Library is closed, all borrowed items will be automatically renewed until further notice.
