O’Shea shines as Mekhbatt tops Al Zubarah Cup field

DOHA:  T O’Shea yesterday guided Mekhbatt to Al Zubarah Cup glory as British jockey Harry Bentley moved closer to his personal tally of 100 wins in one season by posting two more victories at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC).
O’Shea topped at the feature race when Mekhbatt clocked a time of 2:09.63 in the 1900m dirt track race.
Raedah, ridden by Gaetan Faucon, finished in second spot while Rassan, who had R Mullen in the saddle, ended the race in third spot. Bentley, who had 94 wins at the end of last week, yesterday clinched two more wins when he guided Al Moheeb to victory in race one. 
The 22-year-old followed up with another win when he produced a slick run with Qassy in race five.
Al Mohaeeb finished race one ahead of My Way, ridden by O’Shea, and Battash, who had Alberto Sanna in the saddle.
Bentley’s winning time was 1:56:23 in the 100m race. The Briton later saw Qassy cruise to victory in the 1800m run in race five. Qassy’s winning time was 2:04:18. Sand Legend, ridden by Sanna, finished second while, Ashkal, who had Stephan Ladjadj in the saddle, ended the race in third spot.
In race seven, Almotasem Al Balushi guided Saint De Faust to win ahead of Al Mostarsil and Dominicus.
In race six, jockey Gerald Avranche powered Zman Awal to win ahead of Fugleman and Succeed and Excel.
In race four, Aqdaar, ridden by Alberto Sanna, finished ahead of Sunley Pride and Saakhen.
In race three, Lion D’Anvers outpaced Bal De France and Makinson Lane while in race two, Saintloup, ridden by JP Guillambert, proved faster than Kimfalah and Al Khattaf. The riders return to QREC today to stake a claim for Al Gharafa Cup honours. Action starts at 5:00pm.
