Traffic violations fall by 42% in Nov 2022

The number of traffic violations in Qatar fell significantly during November last year, showing an increase in road safety, according to the official data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). 

Total traffic violations declined by 42 percent to 118,117 violations in November 2022, compared to 199,504 in the same month of 2021. They also fell on monthly basis by 41 percent as in October of last year 203,437 violations were recorded. 

Among the traffic violations, the highest fall was seen in the category of violations of over speeding. When compared on yearly basis as many as 140,165 cases of violations of speed limit were registered in November 2021, which fell by 54.5 percent to 63,779 such violations in the same month of 2022.

Whereas, on month-on-month basis the violations stood at 123,018 in October 2022 which showed a decline by 48.2 percent.

The violations of traffic signs stood at 3,266 in November 2022, registering a fall of 46.5 percent when compared to November 2021 year-on-year. 

Similarly, in October 2022 it reached 4,290, recording a decline of 23.9 percent month-on-month. The guidelines and alarm signal violations declined by 16 percent and 39.6 percent respectively on yearly and monthly basis during the review period, revealed the data. Total violations fell despite the increase in the number of new vehicles coming on the road. In the category of traffic movement violation, a decline of 20.7 percent and 38.6 percent were recorded on year-on-year and month-on-month basis.

Out of the total traffic violations registered in November 2022, the speed limit violation (radar) accounted for 64 percent, while stand and wait rules and obligations violations were 20 percent and 16 percent in others category. Traffic accidents cases without counting the accidents not including injuries, registered a total of 866 traffic cases during November last year, showing a monthly decrease of 1.6 percent. Minor injuries accounted for most traffic accidents cases during the same month with 92 percent, followed by severe injuries by 6 percent. However, 21 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 2 percent of total traffic accidents cases.

According to Ministry of Interior, new traffic radars have been installed to ensure traffic regulations in Qatar. The radars have the ability to monitor drivers who are overspeeding and using a mobile phone while driving. They also detect motorists who are not wearing seat belts.

The ministry said these traffic violations are monitored by radars installed on streets across the country. The ministry has reminded the public to adhere to traffic rules to ensure road safety and reduce accidents.

During the FIFA World Cup, the Traffic Management Unit succeeded in ensuring smooth traffic flow at Al Bayt Stadium, facilitating fans’ easy access to venue for the opening of the tournament.  

The Traffic Management Unit facilitated fans to enter and exit the stadiums easily and carried many tasks, most important of which is traffic management at all eight stadiums, the venues of mega sporting event.
