Doha: Ooredoo has cautioned its customers of apps trying to steal personal information using fake profile, saying they “would never contact you this way.”
The telecom company also asked customers to report suspicious messages and calls.
An Ooredoo Qatar tweet said: “If there's a profile called ‘Ooredoo’ trying to contact you through an app - STOP! We would never contact you this way to ask for personal information. If you receive a suspicious message/call remember - stop, block, and report the number to @OoredooCare on Twitter. #Ooredoo”
On the New Year eve, the company had issued a similar warning.
The company said that it would never contact a customer using third-party apps.
“Scammers are taking advantage of the modern-day dependence upon mobile phones, so a frequent scam is stealing personal information via phone operations with which credit cards can then be created and used or personal bank loans taken,” the warning then said.
