Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari
Doha: The Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, has said that human rights are a fundamental pillar of Qatar’s policy and its National Vision 2030.
While speaking to Qatar Radio recently, Al Kuwari said, “Since Qatar developed the first building block of the constitution, it has placed the pillars of human rights as a strategic choice.
“The Qatari Constitution, which was issued in 2004, consists of 150 articles, among 100 of which talk about human rights.”
“We see the human rights situation in Qatar today completely different. People in Qatar enjoy all their rights and more, because this Qatari constitution has provided the basis for these,” Al Kuwari added.
The Deputy Chairman of NHRC pointed out that another aspect of human rights can be seen in the Qatar National Vision 2030, as it makes Qatar an advanced country capable of achieving sustainable development and securing a decent life for its people and residents.
Qatar has paid particular attention to the rights of future generations and the need to secure a future for them, and it is not only responsible for the rights of current generations. This is a clear pledge in Qatar’s Vision that it cares about the rights of its future generations through sustainable development.
Al Kuwari affirmed that the National Human Rights Committee has made many achievements since its inception. It was able to obtain the international community’s confidence, and there is no important international conference or meeting for human rights without an invitation to the committee to participate in it.
During the spread of the pandemic, the committee made many visits to the places designated for workers to find out the humanitarian situation there. It also issued a report distributed to the country’s competent authorities, accompanied by some important recommendations, including work to distribute more masks and sterilizers to the most vulnerable groups, free of charge, such as low-paid workers, detainees, and prisoners.
