The number of deaths due to run-over accident cases has decreased by 10.6 percent last year compared to previous year (2015) and the registered traffic violations also decrease by 0.32 percent in the same period.
Regarding the road fatalities based on geographic traffic sections, Al Shamal registered 28 road death cases this year compared to 19 cases last year and the cases this month (November) were two, said Dr Kim Jraiw, Manager of the National Traffic Safety Office, while speaking recently at the event took place at the General Directorate of Traffic to observe the World Day of Remembrance for Road Accident Victims. “The most of the traffic accidents in Al Shamal occurred on local branch roads and not on the main road,” said a source at the General Directorate of Traffic.
The second is the Southern area in terms of traffic accident deaths, where the number of traffic mortality reached to 24 death cases this year, but it is less when compared to last year where the number was 36, Dr Kim Jraiw said. He also added that two places registered the highest road death cases during this month were in the South and Al Maamoura areas.
The Industrial Area has registered the lowest number of traffic deaths this year where eight cases were registered compared to 10 cases last year, while the area is hosting majority of the workers.
About how much part the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) had implemented from its first Traffic Safety Action Plan 2013–2017, Dr Kim Jraiw said that 62 percent of first phase had been achieved while 38 percent of its components would be transferred to the next five year plan.
The next Traffic Safety Action Plan will start on January 16 next year and under the patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and there are 30 bodies or more in the country will participate in the plan.
The ‘National Traffic Safety Strategy 2013-2022’ aims at reducing the number of the victims of the traffic accidents and decreasing the number of deaths resulted from road accidents annually.
