Katara announces winners of short story competition

Doha, Qatar: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara announced the winners of the “Katara Short Story” competition. The first prize was won by the Egyptian storyteller, Noha Fawzi Al Taralisi, for a story entitled: “The Hot Gold Disc.” The second prize was won by the Moroccan storyteller, Abdel Bar Al-Souldi, for his story: “Bleeding Trees… Bleeding of Existence.” As for the third prize, it went to the Egyptian storyteller Sven Saad Ayoub Sefin. About his story: “The Carbon Footprint”. Katara had launched the “Katara Short Story Competition” 2023 last Ramadan with the theme “Environmental Sustainability.”

This year’s competition also aimed to keep pace with the Expo 2023 Doha, an international horticultural exhibition which will be hosted by Qatar, from October 2 to March 28, 2024, and is mainly concerned with the development of environmental awareness and sustainability.

Katara Publishing House has allocated three prizes for the winners of this competition, the first place winner will receive a financial prize of QR15,000; second place, QR12,000; third place, QR10,000.

About 563 participants from 21 countries, including 17 Arab countries, participated in the competition. Egypt and Sudan topped the most number of participants with 189 entries, followed by the Levant and Iraq with about 101 entries.  The Arab Maghreb ranked third with 89 entries. The fourth participation came from the Arab Gulf, with about 32 participation, while from non-Arab countries, 27.
