Dr. Sharifa Noaman Al Emadi, Executive Director of Doha International Family Institute, a member of Qatar Foundation, has lauded legislative developments in various fields, especially with regard to a study regarding maintaining family stability.

Commenting on the interaction of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani with Editors-in-Chief, she said: “We are pleased with the statements of H E the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior regarding the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani about legislative developments in various fields, especially with regard to a study about maintaining family stability.”

Executive Director of Doha International Family Institute said that DIFI is committed to working towards maintaining a balance between work and family at a national level.

“The institute produced a research report based on qualitative and quantitative evidence about work-family balance in Qatar, and, based on this evidence, we advocated for the development of a complete set of work-family policies with all stakeholders.

“Advocacy efforts have been made at the national, regional and international level; for example, we conducted the same study in Oman in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University, and studied the results and policy recommendations with government representatives in both countries, and also in cooperation with the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs in the GCC countries,”  Al Emadi said.

She said that part-time work for women was one of the prominent recommendations advocated by DIFI, and submitted to the relevant authorities.

“We see this week’s statement as providing inspiration and hope in developing a package of recommendations that significantly contribute to achieving a balance between work and family, such as paternity leave, the extension of maternity leave, childcare arrangements in the workplace, and flexible work arrangements for all.”
