QPO to hold ‘Pearls of Music’ concert on March 26

Doha: Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) is set to hold a concert entitled “Pearls of Music” on Saturday, March 26 before they go on a break during Ramadan.

QPO collaborated with the award winner of the Young Talent Award, American Protege Competition and Crescendo Competition for this concert — soloist Lulwa Al Shamlan.

The concert will feature Camille Saint-Saëns’ most popular piano concerto and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 which consider one of the most performed symphonies of the end of the 20th century, a pillar of the Western classical orchestral repertoire. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36 will likewise be played which was written between 1877 and 1878. “Pearls of Music” will be held at Abdul Aziz Nasser Theatre, Souq Waqif at 7.30pm. 

Lulwa Al Shamlan is a 20 year old Kuwaiti pianist. She began learning the piano at the age of four, and started performing frequently at the age of five. She has performed in various venues across Europe, the USA, Central Asia and the Middle East. 

Some notable performances include her appearance with the Uzbekistan State Symphony Orchestra where she performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 1 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as well as a solo recital at the House of Pianos in Dubai, UAE. 

In New York, she has performed in Zankel and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall after winning second prize in the American Protege competition and first prize in the Crescendo Competition. In Kuwait, Lulwa was awarded the Young Talent award at the Arab Woman Awards and she was also featured in the book “Those Who Inspire Kuwait” which was supported by Unesco.

The Conductor of the concert will be Kamoliddin Urinbaev, who is a performance-driven and creative conductor with experience in opera, chamber, and symphonic music, having worked with world renowned orchestras and soloists.

From 2014 to the present, Urinbayev has been the Founder, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of The State Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan. From 2020 until the present, he became the CEO and Founder of Symphonic Production Company. Most recently in 2021, he was appointed Rector of The State Conservatory of Uzbekistan.

Urinbayev’s has worked on several governmental events as a concert director and conductor, and performed for the heads of states of Germany, China, Turkey, Russia, South Korea, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. He has also collaborated with world-famous musicians such as British violinist Vanessa Mae, Japanese pianist and composer Keiko Matsui, German operatic bass René Pape, Russian conductor Georgiy Rojdestvenskiy.

In addition, Urinbayev has built strong bridges of collaboration and friendship between Kuwait and Uzbekistan working for a long time with Kuwaiti composers, Dr. Amer Jaafar and Dr. Sulaiman Al Dikan.
