The biggest volunteer programme in Qatar’s history kicked off yesterday calling applications for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 volunteers.
With the official launch of the programme, Qatar invites potential applicants from across the world to register to become a volunteer during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. More than 20,000 volunteers will join the FIFA World Cup 2022 during the tournament.
A special event was held at the Katara Amphitheatre in the presence of Minister of Sports and Youth H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF) H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy H E Hassan Al Thawadi, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and several others.
The ceremony also brought together hundreds of volunteering enthusiasts and streamed live encouraging people from all over the world to apply as volunteers.
“This evening is one of the most important milestones in our country’s World Cup journey. I want to reach out to our friends and football fans in our country, across the region, across the world and I want to invite you all to be an integral part of our tournament,” said Al Thawadi.
Addressing the potential volunteers, he said, “As volunteers you will introduce many thousand fans to a new region and new culture and also help to tell a wonderful story perhaps the most prominent, talked about and written about sports event ever.”
Emphasising on the impact of volunteering culture, Al Thawadi said, “As the world is having a positive and valuable effect of people, of communities and societies, you will help to foster a new era of understanding and shared values.”
“As we enter to deliver the greatest FIFA World Cup in history that leaves an unmatched legacy for the entire Meddle Eastern Arab world, you volunteers will be the beating heart of our tournament,” he added.
FIFA President Infantino highlighted that volunteers will be part of an incredible journey of FIFA World Cup 2022.
“Qatar, the Gulf and entire Arab world is welcoming the world for an incredible experience here in November and December of this year. The world will unite in Qatar, the world will unite in this part of the universe, and the world will celebrate an unforgettable event,” he said.
“Altogether we will deliver amazing and to deliver amazing dear friends we need you, we need volunteers,” he added.
The event also featured several volunteers from the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup and they shared their experience.
Applications to be a part of the volunteer team at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 are now open via volunteer.fifa.com.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old on October 1, 2022 and speak English and Arabic will be an advantage. Applicants from all backgrounds and different parts of the world are welcome to apply and they will undergo a selection process.
Selected volunteers will receive a uniform along with a meal during their shift and free access to public transport. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will take place from November 21 to December 18, but some volunteer roles will start from October 1.
Volunteers will be at wide range of places such as stadiums, training sites, the airport, fan zones, hotels, and public transportation hubs.
