DOHA: Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, a medical facility equipped with classroom and operating theatre which is assisting Qatar Creating Vision initiative has landed in Doha.
Qatar Creating Vision is a joint initiative of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Orbis to provide 5.5 million eye screenings and treatments to children in India and Bangladesh.
In November 2015, Qatar launched Qatar Creating Vision initiative to support the mission to eradicate avoidable blindness. The Qatar Fund for Development’s (QFFD) backing has enabled Orbis and its partners to have significant impact on this mission.
“Our charity partner Orbis is bringing its unique Flying Eye Hospital to Qatar and will be touching down in a few hours! The medical training facility; complete with a classroom and operating theatre, is assisting the Qatar Creating Vision initiative by providing training opportunities for medical professionals over the next few years,” Qatar Creating Vision announced in a post on its Facebook page on Tuesday.
“Over the next week, supporters of our work will gain the opportunity to explore the one of a kind aircraft,” it added.
Qatar Creating Vision also thanked Qatar Airways for hosting the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital for its duration in Qatar. The Orbis Flying Hospital is parked at Doha International Airport (old airport).
“The aircraft not only enables our expert volunteers to train local eye care teams in their own country, it also serves as a powerful tool for raising awareness and creating change. It is bringing the world together to fight avoidable blindness,” Orbis says about the Flying Eye Hospital on its website.
The visit of the new Flying Eye Hospital to Qatar will host workshops and private visits. It will be a great opportunity for medical professionals and businesses alike to find out more about the work involved and align to the vision of QFFD – ‘creating a world where no-one is needlessly blind and where everyone with unavoidable vision loss can live to their full potential’.
Coordinating partner – Orbis – transforms lives by preventing and treating avoidable blindness throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America. The charity’s unique teaching facility, the Flying Eye Hospital, works with hospitals around the world to train doctors and nurses in important eye care techniques and is assisting the Qatar Creating Vision initiative.
