Doha: The 10th Halal Qatar Festival began yesterday at southern part of the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara.

The festival will continue until February 26. It includes Al Mazayen event of three categories — ‘Al Irab’, ‘Al Awarid’ and ‘Al Suriyat’ species of sheep and goats.

Organising Committee of Halal Qatar Festival announced the creation of the ‘Elite Shield’ for the next season, which is a new competition that includes all the participants from the Halal owners in the Mazayin in its three categories.

The contestant who secured the largest points in all competitions of three categories will receive elite shield. The committee also announced raising the number of animals in the competition (the most beautiful camels of local production, ‘Shawt Al Razm’) for the next season to ten instead of five.

General Manager of Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti expressed his happiness at the launch of the 10th Qatar Halal Festival.

He appreciated the vital role played by the festival in attracting livestock and their owners, and opened doors of knowledge about the valuable species of livestock to improve the production, supporting the livestock sector.

Chairman of Organising Committee, Salman Al Nuaimi, said: “The festival provides a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences for halal owners. He said that Al Mazayen event, with its three categories, showcased the most beautiful halal varieties within certain criteria that are measured by specialised judging committees.

The festival started at 9am yesterday through the process of handing over and registering the halal. Al Mazayen event which began yesterday in two categories ‘Al Irab’ and ‘Al Awarid’ will continue for three days in a row. The competitions  of Al Suriyat’ category will be held on February 24 and will run until the end of the festival on Saturday.
