HMC’s WWRC receives average 17,000 patients at outpatient department per month

Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) state-of-the-art Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC), which is being recognised as a centre of excellence, has facilitated birth of 52,524 babies from June 2019 to end of June 2021.

On average WWRC sees 6,500 visits at the Emergency Department, 17,000 visits at the outpatient department and 1,900 admissions per month.

WWRC offers personalised family-centred care to all women and newborns in Qatar. Its scope of services ranges from prenatal to perinatal, including postnatal care and newborn care. 

Services at WWRC have continuously improved and upgraded to cater to the increasing needs of women and new born across a broad range of specialities and sub-specialties, according to Dr. Hilal Al Rifai, acting chief executive and medical director and medical director of WWRC. 

Recently, WWRC was designated as a Center of Excellence by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), the largest  society for Obstetric Anesthesia in the US and worldwide.

“The award of this society is significant in the sense that we are following the standard and bench mark set by that society, means that we are following high standards to the extent we are permitted to use their logo,” Dr. Al Rifai told The Peninsula.

According to him, the next step is to remain on their list as ‘Centre of Excellence’.

“This is a very prestigious international award which ranks the service of WWRC in this field at the highest world standards of quality and safety.  This indicates the great support by the leadership of Qatar and H E the Minister of Public Health who raised the ambition bar and motivated the staff to achieve the highest standards of patients’ care that Qatar deserves,” said Dr. Al Rifai.

A total of 1,922 staff including 207 physicians, 1,339 nursing and midwifery staff, 101 allied health and 275 non-medical staff provide wide range of services at WWRC. 

Around 25 subspecialities are available in Obstetrics and Gynaecology services including early pregnancy assessment unit, feto maternal unit, prenatal genetic counselling, psychiatric assessment clinic and others. 

In neonatology WWRC provides, NICU – level 3 care, TBU and TCNU. In neonatology/pediatric clinics services include paediatric cardiology, neurodevelopment clinic, jaundice clinic, baby dietetics, lactation clinic, high risk baby follow-up, neonatal screening and several others. 

Also Qatar Neonatal Transport Program, nationwide emergency transportation has safely transported thousands of neonates from different public and private healthcare facilities in Qatar.
