Hamad Saket Al Shammari, Director of Agricultural Research Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), said that the Botanical Research Section has succeeded in cultivating and flowering six types of wild pastoral and medicinal plants in the field gene bank at the Rawdat Al Faras Research Center, during the 2020 season.
The plants include Al Arjan, Ghusnulban, Al Didhan, Al Harshaf Al Barri, Aynul Jamal (Adonis) and Shawkal Jamalm, said the Ministry in a press release.
Al Shammari said that this achievement come within the framework of the keenness of the Agricultural Research Department in preserving important plant gene of the Arab region, whether they are local plants or those adapted to the environmental and climatic conditions of Qatar.
A comprehensive national field gene bank was established for all the important wild and local species in Qatar in addition to the rare species adapted to the climate of Qatar in order to protect and preserve them and conduct research on them.
