Month-long vocational health and safety events from April 2

Doha: The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour, and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) in cooperation with International Labour Organization (ILO) will organise month-long activities in April to promote occupational health and safety in the country.

The event ‘the month of occupational health and safety-2019’ will be held from April 2 to 28 under the slogan ‘working together for occupational safety and health’ under the framework of celebrating the World Day for Safety and Health at Work which falls on April 28.

The announcement was made in a press conference held here yesterday. The press conference was attended by Dr Asmaa Al Nuaimi, National Lead for Healthy and Safe Employees at MOPH; Jaber Al Marri, Head of Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Labour Inspection Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs and Head of the Organizing Committee of the third vocational safety and health conference; Max Tunon, Technical Specialist, representative office of the ILO in Doha and Babiker Osman, Administrative Partner, Hawkama.

Addressing the press conference, Dr Asmaa Al Nuaimi said that April 2 will see the launch of a conference that will mark the beginning of celebrations. She added that vocational safety and health is an important component of the National Health Strategy 2018-2022. 

She said that the month long activities aimed at encouraging all companies, institutions, and ministries in the State of Qatar to take part and make their own proposals on how to advance vocational health and safety in the country.  

Jaber Ali Al Marri said that the month of occupational health and safety-2019 will begin from April 2 and it will conclude on April 28 in third vocational safety and health conference which will be held under the auspices of H E the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour, and Social Affairs. 

“I would like to invite all sectors to interact during this month and to conduct occupational safety and health activities and invite us to attend, and we will be so happy to come, we already noticed a huge progress and great efforts implemented here in Qatar related to the safety and health,” said Max Tunon.

He said that ILO is working on specific details in order to solve some problems such as excessive stress and heat, which are kind of problems facing the labor sector in particular.
