Doha: As the new academic session begins for Indian schools, it is always a dilemma for parents on what to do with the text books and course material from previous year that are no longer required.
Youth Forum Qatar presents an ideal solution to this problem as they will be accepting old school books at their book bank.
The forum will then hold a distribution session for children who want to collect the used books and reference materials for free.
One of the representatives at the Youth Forum said that they have been collecting and distributing books for last 6 years.
"Every year we receive about 3,000 books and there are many people to collect them from us," he said.
Organised under a programme called ‘Students India Book Bank Qatar’, Class I-XII students from Indian schools can donate their text books and reference material to the bank, which they will then donate to needy students.
Valsala Nair, one of the parents who heard about the programme appreciated the initiative, saying, "When in India, there would be friends or relatives who would want the books. Here I used to tie them up in a box and if someone asks for any book give it. But keeping these boxes then became an issue. Initiatives like these would help everyone."
The collection will be held from March 23 to March 27 at the Youth Forum Office in Hilal between 7pm and 10pm.
The distribution of these used books will take place during March 28-31.
