Doha: Al Markhiya Gallery recently opened “Paths 2” exhibition which is the second part of a previous exhibition of the gallery, in building 5 of the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara.

The exhibition, which runs until October 23, includes 32 paintings by artists belonging to various creative schools: Abdullah Al Asaad from Syria, Hosni Abu Karim from Jordan, Zaid Al Zaidi and Salem Mathkour from Iraq.

In a special statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), artist Salem Mathkour said: “The exhibition is one of the experiences of Al Markhiya Gallery, where four artists from different Arab countries participate in the second part of the exhibition. Its idea comes in the participating artists to produce paintings about the environment of their countries in watercolours.”

He pointed to his keenness to address the Qatari environment in his paintings to express the beauty of nature, so landscapes from the Zekreet area in Qatar with a unique composition were used.

He added that the exhibition introduces the public to the importance of watercolour painting in an unconventional contemporary way, as this aspect of art represents a unique peculiarity. He also said that each artist is distinguished in his own way in drawing with this technique, which was clearly reflected in the paintings on display.

Al Markhiya Gallery launched the exhibition “Paths 1” from May 20 to July 5, which presented a collection of works of art by four Arab artists belonging to various creative schools, including Faraj Daham from Qatar, Mozahem Al Nasiri from Iraq, and Rashid Diab from Sudan.
