DOHA: The Ministry of Interior represented by the General Directorate of Traffic has announced the suspension of the activities of driving schools, whether driving classes or tests in schools, from tomorrow (March 22) until further notice.
The Traffic Department said that the theoretical training will continue online. Trainees can follow the lessons through “Driving Guide” app.
The Department further said that this came in order to maintain public safety and in compliance with the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the country to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Lieutenant Abdul Mohsen Al Ruwaili said that the theoretical classes will continue and that the one who completes theoretical training will be able to go through the test immediately after the opening of the schools.
Speaking to The Peninsula, he said that the decision was taken on time after providing necessary alternative for trainees and schools.
For his part, Hassan Nassar, Manager of Dallah Driving Academy said that decision of the General Directorate of Traffic was meant to protect the safety of the community.
“The Directorate directed the temporary closure of driving schools to limit the spread of COVID-19”.
Hassan Nassar, said that to limit the spread of the virus, Dallah Driving Academy has already taken some precautionary measures based on the directives of the General Directorate of Traffic, including measuring temperature of trainees before their entrance to the academy and measuring the temperature of the trainers twice a day. Nassar also said that among the measures taken by the academy are providing sanitisers at the main entrances and toilets and sterilising cars before training starts.
Many people, on social media accounts of the Ministry of Interior, hailed the decision saying that the decision is absolutely good and it will help protect trainees and trainers from the virus that spreads in crowded places like driving schools.
