Katara General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, with ‘Ghadwa’ star Dhafer El Abidine during the Tunisian Cultural Festival being held at Katara.
The Tunisian Cultural Festival opened with the premiere of the movie “Ghadwa” at Katara on Wednesday, followed by a panel discussion led by Dhafer El Abidine, who directed, wrote and starred in the movie.
Cultural Village Foundation, Katara has been holding such festivities as part of a series of cultural festivals aimed at rapprochement between nations and peoples and building bridges of peace among the countries in the field of human culture.
Katara General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti presented a token of appreciation to El Abidine during the panel discussion.
The movie “Ghadwa” was screened at the Katara Opera House. The Tunisian Cultural Festival will run until tomorrow, March 20.
El Abidine expressed his gratitude as his movie was screened for the first time in Qatar. He also thanked Katara for hosting the event.
“Ghadwa” raises a humanitarian issue which talks about the Tunisian society through the family of the film’s hero “Habib” which was played by El Abidine, and his son Ahmed. The film was also written by Ahmed Amer.
The film succeeded in winning the International Federation of Film Critics Award (FIPRESCI) during its presentation at the 43rd session of the Cairo International Film Festival.
It also received praise from journalists and critics during the presentation at the first session of the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.
Other activities of the festival include Tunisian Malouf music, poetry evening, Tunisian fashion show, and cultural, heritage, exhibitions and art performances.
